"I wanteD to create something different from your usual gym or crossfit class"

When I started R7Fitness in 2015 it looked a lot different. I had 3 members, a few basic pieces of equipment, but a head full of knowledge and a belly full of passion.

I always knew that I wanted to help people individually but with limited time and space I soon realised that 1:1 training wasn't a viable option. I found that members generally wanted the same thing from their training - to be fitter, stronger and improve their overall wellbeing.

From here, R7Fitness has evolved to what it is today. A system of training in a small group environment, with structured progressive programming based around specific categories of training: Strength, Stamina, Power, Bodyweight & Conditioning.

I've always recognised that every person is individual and there has to be an option to cater for that, and now in our brand new gym and facility in Gorseinon we can provide a fully holistic approach.

My passion for fitness began at a young age, reading anything I could about training, nutrition and wellbeing. I've trained for performance for rugby, achieving several honours and applying myself to a good standard of rugby and all forms of endurance activities including cycling the length of the UK and then Wales, completing marathons, triathlons shortest to the longest distance, functional fitness competitions and long distance obstacle course races. More recently with a young family and business my focus has been on being active daily, increasing strength, general fitness and functionally fit to play.

“Very Different From Other Classes”
I have trained with R7FITNESS now for 5 years. My first experience was tough, but so enjoyable!

I love the versatility of the classes and also the mind set that we are training with a purpose, not just jumping about to achieve a sweat.

Each session you can tell is meticulously planned and although you’re in a group session,  each member is given the rep scheme/ weight target based on their ability, strength and skill set. The coaches are extremely passionate in helping their members achieve their goals and and that I feel is what puts the personal touch to R7FITNESS.

In the years I have trained at R7FITNESS I have been able to achieve numerous strict bodyweight chin ups and pull ups, my fitness and body composition is in my opinion in the best condition I’ve felt and I have gained life long friends who empower and support you in and out of the gym.

I would recommend R7FITNESS to anyone of any age, skill or fitness level. What ever your goals or fitness ambitions, the coaches there have got you covered. You will be in capable and professional hands, you will have fun and definitely be a part of a great community!

“My Whole Relationship with Training has Changed”
I started when Steve started R7Fitness, 5 years ago, and I had just had my first baby and wanted to get back into training.

Following a C-Section, I needed to trust someone who would help me do it in a safe way. Very supportive, thoughtful and fun. Steve spends time getting to learn about you as an individual and your training goals and helps you get to where you want to be.

I’ve learnt so many new things and I have learnt to put so much trust in someone who plans well throughout classes and programmes and realise that there’s method behind every single class. He celebrates everyone’s success, large or small as he knows how hard everyone works and how to push you to your potential and out of your comfort zone.

 So many things that I’m immensely proud of - Completing time trails where I completed a 5k PB, competing in the superhuman games, 3 of the R7Fitness competitions and the Invincible run in Pembrey.

This is the longest I have every stuck at something which isn’t a fad - it’s now my way of life. My whole relationship with training has changed over the years and that’s been greatly due to Stephen and R7Fitness.

“Better Than Normal Classes”
Starting a new gym/class is always a bit daunting but R7Fitness makes you feel at ease straight away and the induction is a good way to get a feel of what’s on offer without being thrown in at the deep end.

Then when starting the actual classes everyone is really friendly, there’s no judgement and people of all skill, strength and fitness levels are accommodated for. I like the fact that the sessions are planned out and there’s plenty of variation week on week so it doesn’t get boring yet you are still able to see progress.

The coaches will push/encourage you without you feeling pressured and will adapt the session to your individual needs whether it be more/less complex movements, more/less reps or heavier/lighter weights. The group environment not only gives you that extra boost to get you through the session but you also have a laugh when you're not struggling for breath 😂

I’ve reached different goals with R7Fitness, when I’ve wanted to reduce body fat I’ve been able to achieve this through not only the training but the nutritional guidance available. When I’ve wanted to increase my strength R7 has provided a safe and controlled environment for this which has lead to PB’s in all areas. My general fitness levels have increased and I feel better/healthier when carrying out day to day activities. 

I’ve also learn new skills and techniques that I wouldn’t have used previously.

“Perfect All Round Fitness”
I have trained with Steve roughly three or four times per week for 4 years.

I remember my first session well as I had ran a few marathons so thought I was reasonably fit. However after the warm up session with Steve and scoping out my goals I realised that I was fit for running but not all round fitness or strength - so straight away I had a clear, specific goal.

I really love the encouragement the group classes give you to push yourself. I knew no one there pre joining as was made to feel welcome instantly.

I’m not the quickest at picking up direction etc so the group and Steve’s patience really help. My goal was to add all round strength and  muscle.

I have added 2 stone to my body weight and feel more flexible, recover quicker and am less injured. I still hate the bike after four years however! 

I would strongly recommend Steve and all at R7 Fitness- the thought of training in a group previously repelled me - but it so friendly and professional with the right mix of competition, aspiration and drive that it’s a joy to attend and see real results!

Steve is excellent in motivating, pushing and delivering bespoke session and technique work for both individual and group work.

About R7 FITNESS

R7Fitness is a premium fitness gym in Gorseinon offering 1-1, group and semi-personal training programmes creating body and life transformation through a unique approach and structure. Established in 2015 by lead coach Steve Raikes, the business has grown year-on-year with the addition of a brand new larger gym facility in Gorseinon, Swansea, South Wales in 2021.
